And, what’s more, I hate the fact that it’s everywhere now. Today, a shiny new set of DVDs arrived on my doormat. I popped in the first disc, and was treated to…an advert, telling me to buy more DVDs. They used the “No skip” flag designed for FI warnings and the like to mandate that I had to watch this garbage, and will have to watch it every time my DVD player resets - 5 minutes of utter tripe, for something I’m not interested in, on a product that I just paid for!
Now, can someone from Paramount please tell me why I shouldn’t just visit my local Bittorrent hub and download what I want, rather than paying money for the privilege of being a captive audience for garbage? I very much doubt I’ll purchase a boxed set from you again, so that might be the only option.
Mr Huhne never replied to my software patents letter, and now I know why. It seems he was standing as MP for Eastleigh. I have mixed feelings about this, as he was employed as an MEP at the time, and seemingly neglecting those duties to campaign in a general election is a little bit concerning. However, he won, and as I voted Liberal, I guess this is a good thing.
Sharon Bowles replaces him in the European Parliment, and my letters and emails have been sent to her. I await with bated breath the first real Liberal Democrat reply!
Well, Mr Daniel Hannan responded on Saturday, and what a horrible thing to find on my breakfast table it was. Unashamedly pro patents, he claims that the problems the anti-patent lobby state are exaggerated, that the US patent system does work and that there is no evidence of it harming small businesses. According to the Conservatives, a strong patent system is essential for small IT.
I was unaware that Conservative HQ was on another planet; if he can show me in 10% of small IT companies in favour of this legislation I would be amazed. I’ve been forced to put LaTeX to toner again, and send this response.
